Last night I went to what will probably end up being my final bachelor party! I’m not trying to be melodramatic, it’s just a reality. Bachelor parties are meant for the groom and his closest friends –guys who’ve known each other for years, who’ve grown up together and did all those silly, stupid and down-right dangerous things together – the things that in retrospect are a part of growing up –the things that give us boring old middle-agers something to talk about.. Anyway, my buddy Bill, the last holdout from our “gang” is finally getting married later this month. Last night, was his night out!
We’re all in our forties now and bachelor parties really aren’t what they used to be! We started the evening over steaks (when men go out to eat together, they order steak —period). After that a few beers (again… it’s what men drink) at a local bar, we basically hung out and talked for a little while before heading off on our separate ways (Pretty quite and we where all home before midnight).
The point is we were all happy with the way the night turned out. I guess it really goes back to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. My group in general is pretty settled with our families, our home-life’s, and our careers – we really didn’t have the desire for the kind of things we did at previous bachelor parties – (hell, I can’t even remember what happened at a few of them – I know I had fun though :))
So all of this finally brings me to a fundamental truth about marketing – You have to know your customer. If you were trying to sell a bachelor party (hey is there an affiliate program for that?) to a twenty year old, you probably shouldn’t try to sell them my Friend Bill’s party. Let’s face it a twenty year old is probably looking for something different, dare I say a bit more exciting. For my group, we were happy with a juicy steak, a few cold beers and a couple of old stories.
So here’s the deal… if you want to be a successful affiliate marketer, then you need to market to your audience. Figure out who they are, what they’re looking for, what they need and what they think they need. Then develop your content and marketing around that. It’s all about speaking directly to your customer, and appealing to what’s important to him or her. Do that right and it doesn’t really matter what you’re selling, your customers will find you.

When I’m looking for ideas to blog about, I often head over to PRweb and have a look at what’s new in my niche. You see, the use of press releases is an excellent way to get a buzz going about a new website or a new service or a give-away etc… So, PRweb is an excellent place to keep abreast of your Niche. Now, something else to consider, even though Press Releases have been around long before the web was in existence, the web did bring something new to the world of Press Releases…
Internet Marketing Success! Wealthy Affiliate provides keyword lists for profitable markets, marketing resources, advertising techniques, and coaching by two successful internet marketers who are making more than the average person does in a year, each month. Join Now.
Trackbacks…
One aspect of PRweb that is often overlooked is the fact that many of the press releases will give you a trackback if you reference them on your blog. I’ve used this tactic quite a bit and see a reasonably steady stream of traffic coming from these press releases for sometimes weeks after I make the post.
Further, a look at the source code of these trackbacks reveals that PRweb is NOT using the fabled “NoFollow” tag. Which means, Google CAN follow these links and CAN give you a PR (as in Page Rank) boost. What’s more, PRweb is an authority site with a homepage Page Rank of seven; make no mistake, this is one of the trusted sites that Google spiders everyday!
Now for a real-world example:
Here’s an example of a Trackback I received for a post I did back in December:
The PRweb page above has a Page Rank of 4, if you follow the link through to my post you’ll see that my page has a PR 3 – most of the Page Rank has to be from my PRweb trackback since my Homepage is only a PR 2 .
…That’s all I’m saying on this one, use the technique if you want, tell your friends about it… Just please …speak kindly of me .

It’s tough moving an affiliate blog into profitability, you know you have a voice, you write diligently about your niche yet the traffic just doesn’t come. The frustrating part is no matter how hard you work; it can take months to make even that first affiliate sale. Luckily there are a few resources on the web that will actually pay you for what you have now; a content-rich website. Below I’ll describe several popular options so you can start generating that cold hard cash —immediately.
Get Paid for blogging…
This type of service pays you to do what you should already be doing; posting to your blog. It’s pretty straight forward, advertisers order a certain number of posts about their product or website; often they’ll have a specific keyword that they’ll want linkbacks. You (the blogger) choose the ones you want to post about, then simply write the post following the advertisers instructions. Typically you can earn five to ten dollars per post. There are often some restrictions regarding the number of paid posts you can make per day and the ratio of paid posts to actual content posts, but this is a valid way to take advantage of your existing blog. Lastly, while these services are free to join, there is a review process before you can start posting.
I’ve tested several of these system, the two here are the two listed below are the once I recommend:
Most bloggers realize that Linkbacks are valuable to SEO and for old fashioned traffic generation. We participate in link exchange schemes, submit to directories and more. However, there is a market for paid text links —where webmasters pay you for a link to their site. You can either do this yourself, by contacting webmasters individually or you can sign up with a service that will list your site for advertisers to browse. I’ve had good results with Text Link Ads. With this site you sign up (it’s free) and submit your blog(s) for approval. Once approved, your offer goes out to their ad system. Advertisers then browse through the offerings and select the sites they’d like to buy a link from. All transactions are handled through Text Link Ads, they split the fee with you. Each site is allowed to sell a maximum of eight links, link prices are based on the demand within their particular category – it’s possible to earn about $100/month per site with this system. Note, Text Link Ads also offer RSS feed advertising, but I don’t yet have experience with that.
Associated Content is an interesting site. They’ll pay you for articles you’ve written even if they’re already published. AC buys both written and video content. You sign up (it’s free) and submit the article(s) you wish to have them publish. You have to tell them at the outset if the article you’re submitting is exclusive (not published elsewhere) or non-exclusive. They then review your content and if they like it they make you an offer. Typically a non-exclusive article will net you about $4-$5. Exclusive content pays higher.
One important thing to remember about this service, there’s no resource box –it’s not like article syndication where you can get Linkbacks to your site, they buy the article and treat it as their own.
I’ve only used this service for non-exclusive articles (articles I’d already published), I was paid $4 per article, the payment arrives (via PayPal) a few days after the offer is accepted.
Well there you have it, three ways you can start earning money from your blog —today, even if your SEO efforts haven’t paid off yet. Give one or more of them a try and let me know how you make out.
