Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to use lots of keyword research tools. Some free, some paid for, some online, some stand alone applications. Well recently I found out about a brand new tool called “Keyword Explode” that works differently then any other tool I’ve ever tried.

Before I go further with Keyword Explode, let’s take a quick look at how most other keyword research tools work.

First you have the class of tools that simply spider other pages for their keyword meta tags. These tools were popular several years ago as they were easy to build. These tools would simply perform a search on a popular search engine then they’d spider the SERPs for each pages keyword meta tags. Tools like this were much more effective in the olden days when people actually bothered to use the keyword meta tag.

Next we have the more advanced tools like Keyword Elite, these tools typically automate the use of online PPC resources. They’ll spider the Overture Keyword tool or the Google Adwords tool to return a list of keyphrases. These are effective for generating a huge list of related keyphrases based on a seed word or phrase. The problem with these tools is that the seed phrase is always included in each of the returned phrases.

Additionally services like Wordtracker that purchase and compile organic search terms that are actually used by web searchers. While these tools can be much more effective then offline tools, the returned list will always have some iteration of the seed search term in the results.

Keyword Explode is radically different! Keyword Explode Learns the meaning of the keyphrase you’re looking for then gives alternative phrases to exploit. This is different from all the other keyword tools that I’ve ever seen — they have no understanding what you’re talking about so inputting something like “Chips” may return keyphrases related to “Potato chips”, “Poker Chips”, “Paint Chips” etc… Keyword Explode actually understands that you’re looking for phrases related to say “Poker Chips” and in only seconds will return a list of phrases whose meaning relates to what you’re looking for. And It returns things you’d probably NEVER think of otherwise…
