The idea of simply using a stylesheet to turn a regular web site into a mobile site is naive. These approaches have been tried for years since the early days of the mobile web, and have universally resulted in disappointment. Firstly because it is extremely difficult technically, secondly because mobile users don't actually want a dumb subset of a full web site.

Whether you use a .mobi address or a .com address, modern mobile developers should start with the many acknowledged best practices in this area (e.g. http://www.w3.org/2005/MWI/BPWG/). You can check how well your site adheres to these (and additional) guidelines at http://mr.dev.mobi/

Ultimately, a compelling mobile application will be one that was written from the start with the mobile context in mind. (Users on the move want to do different things than surf stylesheeted bits of regular web sites).

With respect, this interview is a little short-sighted on these themes.
