Here’s an excellent post by Anthony Fallon over at Warrington Web Works, about SEO and Google and the conventional wisdom (or lack of), that is preached every day by bloggers, webmasters and web gurus. Most of us have been the victim of this kind of thinking at one time or another:
Will Google like my site better if I word my page this way?
Will Google Like it if I link to site A, or should I link to site B instead?
So, what if tomorrow Google is gone. It can happen believe me. When I was first breaking into the web world, Google had not yet been born. The big Search Engine at that time was Altavista!?! We would spend our time reading forums trying to crack that algroithm, fortunes could be made once you got it right. But guess what, within a year or two, Altavista was on Life support. Today, the SE of choice is Google, sure it’s been that way for a while now, but anything can happen, a few stupid moves and the web world can turn on them just as quickly as it turned on our old friend Altavista.
The point is, build your website as best as you can, create good content about your niche, keep it current, and you’ll be rewarded.
