People often ask about my most successful Affiliate marketing tactics. Well, I hate to call it a “tactic” but, I’ve learned over the years to simply get to know the products and services I’m promoting. Yes, that means actually buying and using them. My job then becomes a simple task of writing a real review describing the positives and negatives of the product.
It sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? There’s no Web 2.0 voodoo, and no cryptic “black hat” Search Engine techniques. Just a simple straightforward webpage about the product you’re trying to sell.
Is it really that simple?
Well that’s certainly not all there is to it – but knowing what you’re trying to promote probably gets you about ninety percent of the way there.
You see, that’s the problem with a lot of affiliate marketers. They spend their time worrying about everything but the product they’re trying to promote. You can’t successfully sell something if you’ve never really experienced it. Do you think you can really describe the sound of a sizzling steak if you’ve never bothered to stand near the grill? I know I can’t…
So does this mean you have to go out and buy the latest and greatest HDTV or blow the kids college fund doing product research. Of course not! You’re already using products and services right now, aren’t you? Why not make a list of the things you like and don’t mind spending money on. I bet you’ll find a bunch of products that you can start promoting today – with no additional research costs involved.
I guarantee, you’ll make a lot more money selling something that you’ve used and understand then you will trying to sell some bleeding-edge high tech gadget that you saw the kid next door fiddling with.
…And the best part is, when it’s time for that hot new HDTV – you can write it off!

David - Tactics is not a bad word to use. Back when I was selling tangible products, I, as you suggested, was rabid to know what these products could and couldn’t do, along with learning every facet of the manufactures’ warranties and support. By doing so, I could answer prospective customers’ questions intelligently and thereby gain their trust and make a sale. This was pre-internet days. Now that we have the luxury to offer products on the web, well, nothings really changed except we have a larger market base to pull from and our time has been freed up. These principles also apply to intangible markets as well - as you well know. Thanks for the great post - it’s always good to get back to the basics that, sorely, many have forgotten.
Hey! thanks for the information. People assume that having an online business means that they don’t have to work . This is simply not true. When we follow the correct internet marketing strategies it will definitely give good results.
